Damian Hughes is a research photo-historian, photographer, and ecologist. He holds a BA (Hons) in photography from Staffordshire University, and an MA in photographic history from De Montfort University (DMU). He is currently completing a doctoral research project on the role of photography in ecological science in the early 20th century.His research interests also encompass the history of the British illustrated press, and the development of photographic art and documentary practice in the ‘dark’ period of British photo-history, in the mid-20th century.
Damian is a also practising photographer with an active engagement in contemporary photographic practice, exhibition and curating. Damian teaches undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the history of photography, contemporary photographic practice, documentary photography and photojournalism.
