Steven Speed

Lecturer

Steven has been working as a photojournalist and documentary photographer for almost 20 years. He has worked in the UK and overseas and his work has been published in local and national newspapers and magazines as well as showing work in exhibitions and books. He also works with video and has shown films at international film festivals.

 

He has worked as an artist in residence with various arts organisations and institutions; as an artistic director for a publishing company; a magazine editor and as a consultant for independent media and NGOs.

 

His research specialises in Art and Activism and Visual Sociology and he regularly speaks at conferences and other professional network events. He publishes his work in academic books and journals and this year he has chapters published in The Violence of Austerity (Pluto Press) and From Financial Crisis to Social Change (Palgrave MacMillan).

 

Steven has a BA (hons) in Photography and Literature and an MA in Media Arts. He has worked at many academic institutions over the last 15 years as a Lecturer, Course Leader, Programme Leader and Head of School.
